Carlos Correa, Twins win second game vs. Angels

Carlos Correa went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, and the Minnesota Twins pulled away for a 5-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Ty France, Jonah Bride and Brooks Lee also drove in one run apiece for Minnesota, which secured its second consecutive series win. Every player in the Twins’ starting lineup reached base at least once, and eight of the nine notched a base hit.

Zach Neto went 3-for-4 with a solo homer to lead Los Angeles at the plate. Neto also swiped his first three bases of the season.

Twins right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson (2-2) allowed one run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked none and struck out seven.

Angels left-hander Yusei Kikuchi (0-4) remained winless on the season. He surrendered four runs on nine hits in two innings. He walked four and struck out none.

Twins closer Jhoan Duran finished the game with a seven-pitch ninth inning. He did not earn a save because Minnesota had a four-run lead.

The Twins got off to a fast start with three runs in the first. Correa and France started the outburst with back-to-back RBI singles. Two batters later, Bride delivered an RBI single to increase the lead to 3-0.

Correa struck again with an RBI single in the second to make it 4-0 for the Twins.

The Angels got on the scoreboard during the third. Neto worked the count into his favor at 3-1 and ripped a 396-foot homer to left-center field on the next pitch.

The shot marked Neto’s third homer this season and his second in the past three games.

The Twins increased their lead to 5-1 in the sixth on Lee’s RBI double to right. Lee drove in France, who led off the inning with a double to right.

Minnesota’s pitching staff combined for zero walks and 13 strikeouts. By comparison, the Angels’ pitching staff combined for five walks and eight strikeouts.
