Race on: Tyreek Hill, Noah Lyles set for showdown on track

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles are ready to put the debate — and the trash talk — to rest and race to determine who is the faster runner.

The two told People on Thursday that they’ve agreed to take to the track to settle their friendly feud.

“This has been an ongoing thing for, quite some time now, and I mean, everybody’s seen the back and forth on social media,” Hill, 30, said.

“I’ve been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like.”

Lyles, 27, won the gold medal last summer at the Paris Olympics in the 100-meter and is a three-time world champion, winning the gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m events in 2023.

And he also won his fourth consecutive 60m final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Feb. 2, then teased Hill anew with a sign that read, “Tyreek could never.”

A date and place has not been set for the race, only that it will be before Lyles races in the U.S. championships in July. A distance has not been agreed to, other than between 40 and 100 meters, according to The Athletic.

Lyles has no lack of confidence heading into it.

“Everybody says that they’re gonna be the world’s fastest, but when it comes down to it, you gotta be the winner every time, each and every time, and every time I show up to the biggest moments, I win,” he said. “That’s why I’m the world’s fastest.”

Hill competed in track in high school and at Oklahoma State and has a personal best in the 100m event of 10.19 second, according to a 2023 Yahoo report. Lyles’ winning time in Paris was 9.79 seconds.
